Sustainability

Cynaliadiwyedd

Sustainability lies at the heart of Anna Prints. We aim to be as ecologically and socially ethical as possible, and seek out suppliers who share our ethos.

We only use responsibly grown and sourced textiles such as organic and fairtrade cotton, recycled card and paper, and waterbased ecological inks. Our website is hosted at a solar powered data centre in California (where they have plenty of sun!) and as you can see from our designs we are big fans of the bicycle for getting about. At the design studio we have solar hot water and a woodfired stove to keep the chill off, and we are really into growing our own organic veg and flowers.

Water based inks:

Most commercial screen printers print garments using plastisol inks, which are easy to use and last well. However, plastisol inks contain PVC and phthalates that are harmful to the environment and have been linked to numerous medical disorders. Plastisol inks also require the use of harmful solvents in the cleaning process. Water based inks do not contain PVC or phthalates and you don't need solvents to clean the screens down after they've been used - you can clean them with water.

The waterbased inks we use do not contain ozone-depleting chemicals such as CFC's and HCFC's, aromatic hydrocarbons or any volatile solvents. They don't contain lead or any heavy metals. In fact, the inks we use do not contain any toxic chemicals at all! The Permaset Permatone range of textile screen-printing inks, we use have been approved by The Soil Association for having successfully met the requirements of the Global Organic Textiles Standards (GOTS) for non-organic chemical inputs for use in organic textile processing.
